The Basketweave stitch
This is an unconventional pattern, which is one of the sturdier ones and is ideal for crocheting winter accessories. This pattern is worked using double crochet, front post double crochet and back post double crochet.
For this example, I've used yarn from Vlna Hep – Tulip Color.
- First, we'll make a chain stitch. The number of stitches must be divisible by eight, plus four extra stitches.
- Row 1: In this row, we'll crochet double crochets (Dc), starting from the fourth stitch from the hook; at the end of the row, we'll make 2 chain stitches (CH) and turn
- Row 2: We will alternate 4 front and 4 back post double crochet stitches, starting with the front double crochet; at the end of the row, we will work 1 Dc into the last stitch
- Row 3: Crochet back and front post double crochet as they appear – above the front ones, front and above the back ones, back. At the end of the row, make 1 Dc, 2 chain stitches and turn
- Row 4: Crochet the front and back post double crochet, but this time in the opposite way to how they appear, so crochet the back post double crochet stitch above the front post and the front post above the back post double crochet stitch; at the end, make 1 Dc, 2 CH and turn
- Row 5: Crochet front and back post double crochet as they appear; at the end of the row, make 1 Dc, 2 CH and turn
Repeat the process until the desired length is reached.
